Consumers may be spending less on new homes but a survey suggests they plan to spend more fixing up the ones they have.
Homeowners will spend an average of about $11,250 on home improvement and maintenance projects this year—up 13 percent over last year, according to an annual poll by Angie’s List, a national organization that helps members find contractors who agree to be rated for their service.
More than 60 percent of the 1,309 members polled said they plan to update their homes. They said they will spend on average about 2.9 percent of their home’s value on repairs and renovations. Read more
