Pier 1 looks to its past in bid to reshape itself

“Our goal for the holidays and beyond is to offer the customer something unique at a great value.”

Pier 1 Imports will test a bunch of new merchandise—and bring back some old favorites—this holiday season in an attempt to re-establish its niche in the increasingly competitive home-furnishings market.

Bath and body products, inexpensive jewelry and children’s toys are among the products that will be added to stores next month. Some of the items are on display like wrapped packages under a Christmas tree in the lobby of Pier 1’s headquarters in downtown Fort Worth.

But will shoppers who yearn for a return to Pier 1’s bohemian roots snap up the new items? That’s the $64,000 question for the home-decorating retailer. Read more
