An organization that provides affordable housing to families with low and moderate incomes is building a house in Tamaqua that will let its owners stretch dollars even further.
Contractors for Schuylkill Community Action on Tuesday hoisted two 4- by 8-foot solar panels to the nearly completed cottage home at 336-338 Hazle St. and bolted them to the south side of the roof.
The Canadian-made panels will heat water in the home, saving the owner hundreds of dollars a year.
Frank Shiffer, housing rehabilitation coordinator for the group, estimated it will cost $100 a year for domestic hot water in the house. Read more
