D.R. Horton, the country’s largest home builder, said second-quarter net profit dropped 85 percent to $51.7 million from $352.8 million.
The company attributed the decrease to unsold inventory, a drop in the value of land it bought during the bull market and the cost of sales.
‘We continue to operate in a very difficult home-building environment,’ said Don Tomnitz, chief executive. ‘In spite of this, we are improving our already strong balance sheet while we continue to manage our business profitably.’ Read more
